The Philippines Beat China at Men's Basketball Semifinals of 19th Asian Games
The Philippines has achieved a significant milestone in Men's Basketball at
the Asian Games, making it to the final for the first time in over 30
years.
The Filipino national men's basketball team aptly named "Gilas" secured a thrilling and narrow
victory over the People's Republic of China's squad, with a final score of 77-76, in
Hangzhou on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

Despite trailing for most of the game and facing a daunting 20-point deficit
in the third quarter, the turning point came when Justin Brownlee made a
three-pointer with just 24 seconds remaining on the clock. This shot not only
gave the Gilas team their first lead of the game but also ultimately secured
their victory.
In the upcoming Final match, the Philippines will be pitted against Jordan,
who secured a convincing 90-71 win against Chinese Taipei in the other
semi-final. Notably, Jordan had previously defeated the Gilas team in the
tournament with a score of 87-62.
The final showdown is scheduled to take place at 8 pm local time on Friday,
October 6th. Meanwhile, the bronze medal match between the People's Republic
of China and Chinese Taipei is set for 4PM.
