Eng Bee Tin Honey Pork Kikiam Is The Best Kikiam I've Tasted So Far
As a food enthusiast, I always enjoy trying new dishes and exploring different flavors. One of my all-time favorites is kikiam, a popular street food in the Philippines that's made from ground pork, vegetables, and spices, then wrapped in bean curd sheets and deep-fried until crispy.
Over the years, I've tried several kikiam brands, but none of them have impressed me as much as Eng Bee Tin's Honey Pork Kikiam. Eng Bee Tin is a well-known brand that has been serving authentic Chinese delicacies since 1912 and is particularly famous for its hopia, tikoy, and mooncakes.
The first time I tried their Honey Pork Kikiam was during a visit to their branch in Binondo, Manila's Chinatown. I was immediately impressed by the aroma of the kikiam, which had a sweet and savory scent that made my mouth water.
As soon as I took a bite, I was blown away by the explosion of flavors. The pork filling was well-seasoned and had a juicy, tender texture that melted in my mouth. The addition of honey in the recipe gave the kikiam a pleasant sweetness that complemented the saltiness of the pork, creating a perfectly balanced flavor profile.
For me, what made Eng Bee Tin's Honey Pork Kikiam truly stand out was the fact that it has little to no extenders or starch. This makes it a whole lot better than most other kikiam brands available in the Philippines. Eng Bee Tin's Honey Pork Kikiam is so dense with pork and seasoning that it almost tastes like Chinese Sausage or even Pinoy Longganisa.
Additionally, its crispy golden-brown bean curd wrapping has a perfect texture and it doesn't feel oily or greasy in my mouth, which was a relief because I've tried other kikiam brands that felt grimy and greasy on the tongue after just one piece.
What's more impressive is that despite being deep-fried, the Honey Pork Kikiam maintained its shape and didn't fall apart, which is a testament to the quality of Eng Bee Tin's ingredients and cooking process.
Aside from its exceptional taste and texture, the Honey Pork Kikiam is also quite affordable, making it a favorite among budget-conscious foodies. A pack-of-four Honey Pork Kikiam has a price tag of PHP 180 or around 45 per piece and I think it's definitely worth every penny.
